BARRY J. KRUSE

Dear Eric,

What a magical, extraordinary, wonderful trip I had on the Futaleufu with Earth River Expeditions. It was such an all around intense experience with all the senses; sight, touch, smell, taste and hearing. I don’t have to tell you that the Futaleufu Valley is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Your camps were like fairy-tale-like settings with amenities and comforts commonly reserved for resort areas. I guess I spent more time in the hot tubs than most of the guests but how often does one get stupendous views while soaking in a hot tub.

The food was local, fresh, natural and the group agreed the cooks need a public television cooking show. Their soups, salads, main plates and deserts were simple, generous, elegant and delightful. Not to mention the wonderful Chilean wine each evening.

It’s also no news to you that your guides are doubtless among the most elite group ever assembled. In terms of boating skills, kindness, courtesy, thoroughness and patience they pegged the meter. The entire group absolutely loved them. I’ve done a lot of rivers and the whitewater on the Fu rocks. It’s obvious it could get out of hand in a big way with the wrong guides and without the safety set up you have with the catarafts.

Along with the amazing camps, smoking whitewater, incomparable guides and unbelievable food, the multi-sport activities at each camp were some of the most challenging and rewarding things many in our group had ever done. It’s funny, because when I signed up, I never thought the off river activities would hold a candle to the whitewater but they were unforgettable. If I have one slight criticism it would be a little more scheduled free time to explore the Cave Camp the way you do at some of the other camps. I know the activities at Cave Camp are all optional but when they’re offered no on wants to miss anything. Figuring out how to add a little free time at cave Camp, without missing out on anything would be a worthwhile logistical challenge. Having a little time to explore that property which is so diverse, would add rather than detract from the overall experience. I personally never reached Lost beach which I would have love to have seen.

Again Eric, I am grateful to you and the Earth River guides, for sharing such an extraordinarily trip with me.

Yours Truly,

Barry J. Kruse
