 Dear Earth River;

I could write the most amazing letter and it still wouldn’t do this experience justice. The days I was with Earth River on the Futaleufu had to have been the best 7 days of my life. It´s hard to describe, but there are so many categories in which to grade a trip; scenery, accommodations, activities, food, staff and so many other facets. Every category scored so high above anything I could have imagined. It was just a jaw dropping, mind blowing experience. I told Robert and the other guides, probably to the point that they were tired of hearing it, I was having the greatest time of my life. In just one day´s experience a person would be hard pressed to do and see as much in a week.  The Earth River camps were incredible. The locations are stunning. Where you ate and slept each night, beyond belief. I know Eric mentioned to me before I came down, that you had a number of groups each year that just hiked from Camp to Camp and never set foot in a raft. I now understand why.

Earth River must be to outdoor adventures what Walt Disney is to children´s entertainment. The creative power and ingenuity behind the four camps was extrordinary, and then carrying out the process to actually build them. It´s not just the beautiful wooden structures and bridges but how they enhance what nature put there. The final camp, Mapu Leufu, with that incredible 360 degree view from the top of the cliff where we ate dinner of the Grand Teton like towers rising out of the turquoise river one way and the Alp like, snow capped peaks the other, will be with me the rest of my life.  Oh, yeah, there were a few other incredible activities like canyoneering, climbing, Rappelling and whitewater rafting.

Inferno Canyon, Terminador and Himalayas were incredible. Magic Carpet ride and Casa de Piedra also stand out in my mind. Casa Piedra is everything you could want in a rapids with seven or eight must moves followed by a huge wave train. I must say, I enjoyed the two days off the river, hiking up to tree House Camp and climbing at rappeling off the Tower at least as much as the whitewater. The hike to Tree House Camp was a great workout and spectacular. Seeing Cave Camp from the trail overlook was amazing. The rope traverse across Zeta Rapid was incredible and the zip line was a blast coming back. In fact, I went off the zip line two more times before I went over and jumped off the cliff jump. I’ve been on a lot of rivers and have had some great vacations, but this trip has been better than all of my past experiences combined.
